Student opportunities and activities
At Empire Vale Public School, we offer a variety of programs in the classroom and across the school to help students build new skills, make friends and explore new interests.
Our opportunities and activities include:
- Each year, Empire Vale Public School nominates one student from Year 5 and one from Year 6 to join the Stewart House Program. Stewart House provides a a caring, coeducational wellbeing program for children in Years 2 to 8 from government schools across NSW and the ACT. Around 1,600 children take part each year in this life-changing twelve-day experience focused on personal growth and building resilience.
- Our student-led think tank is a creative and collaborative group where young learners explore ideas, solve problems, and develop leadership skills. It encourages critical thinking, teamwork, and innovation, empowering students to voice opinions and contribute to school or community projects.
- Students have the opportunity to be a part of our Journalist Team who write for our community magazine Ballina Wave
- Visual Arts Events with world renowned artists including our silk painting work shop with Kim Toft.
- University of New England (UNE) Discovery Voyager program brings interactive STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) workshops directly to Empire Vale Public School
- PSSA Athletics, X-Country and Swimming carnivals giving our students the opportunity to compete on a district, zone, regional and state level
- Inter-school competitions within the Southern Cross Community of Small Schools include events such as chess, spelling bees, public speaking, and debating.

Internal Extra-Curricular Activities
Debating, Public Speaking, Chess and Art, all extra curricular activities we offer throughout the year.
Sporting Events
Students can participate in a range of sporting events including the Soccer and Touch Football Gala Days.
PSSA Carnivals
Each year we compete in a Swimming, Athletics and X-Country carnival where students have the opportunity to represent on a school, zone, regional, state, and national level.
Incursions
Each year we have a range of skilled professionals that come to our school to teach and educate our students on new skills.
Creative and performing arts
Our drama, music and art programs help students be creative and express themselves. They can join in concerts, art shows and drama activities.
Trips, Camps and Excursions
Our students enjoy getting out of the classroom to explore, learn and try new things. These experiences help them grow, build confidence and see how their learning connects to the world.
