If you can read this… Thank a Literacy Teacher!

At Empire Vale Public School, we pride ourselves on our outstanding literacy program, where the skills of reading, writing, talking and listening are nurtured on a daily basis.

We utilise a wide range of literacy strategies that include interactive white boards, iPads as well as good old-fashioned pen & paper.

We love completing author studies and novel projects to deepen our understating of authors and their work. We have utilised our literacy skills to succeed in environmental, arts, media and science projects.

Our students have experienced great success in Public Speaking and Debating thanks to our whole-school programs that develop the confidence to construct, define and share ideas.

We have a library bursting with books, that we encourage students to borrow on a regular basis to help them develop their knowledge!

Students learn about the English language through written, spoken and visual texts of increasing complexity as they progress through their schooling.

An understanding of the English language is central to how we communicate and essential for intellectual, social and emotional development.

The study of English should develop a love of literature and learning and be challenging and enjoyable. It develops skills to enable students to experiment with ideas and expression, to become active, independent and lifelong learners, to work with each other and to reflect on their learning.

English study is mandatory in NSW from Kindergarten to Year 12.
